Listen Labs alternatives for customer research in 2026

Listen Labs alternatives, sorted by the job you need done, with what each costs, where each is ahead, and what the Salesforce acquisition changes for the buyer.

Listen Labs is one of the strongest AI interview products in the market, and since Salesforce agreed to acquire it in September, more teams are comparing it against other options. Customer research has more good options than it had two years ago: platforms where an AI moderator interviews real people, survey tools with decades of method behind them, usability platforms with panels of their own, and vendors that run the whole program for you. Voicepanel is our pick for teams that run their own research and want interviews, usability tasks, and surveys in one study, with the prices in public. Outset fits teams that want the vendor to run the program, Qualtrics has the deepest survey toolset, SurveyMonkey the cheapest start, UserTesting the widest usability methods, and Maze the best fit for Figma prototypes.

Three rules shaped this list. Every platform here collects feedback from real people; synthetic respondents are a different product, and I've written separately about where they hold up and where they don't. Every claim about another vendor comes from its own site or a named third party, the same sources behind our comparison of 20 research platforms, and the prices come from what each vendor publishes and what buyers report paying. And Voicepanel is first in each list because we built it for research done your way: pick the methods the question needs, run the study yourself or hand it to your AI agents, and see the price before the call. Where another platform is the better fit for a job, I say so, and I'd rather you ran a study on two of them than took my word for it.

We wrote this, and we're on the list. If we got something wrong, email hello@voicepanel.com and we'll fix it.

Listen Labs alternatives by job

AI-moderated interviews

  • Voicepanel. AI interviews in voice, video, and chat with real people from 10+ panel partners, your own customers, or your website, in 37 languages. The interviewer probes on its own, and on Enterprise you can read and edit the rules it follows. You run the study in the app, or your agents run it through the MCP server and REST API on one public study schema. Pay per project starts at $5,000, all in.
  • Outset. The closest match to a managed Listen Labs program. Its pricing page sells guide programming, data collection, panel sourcing, and project management by the Outset team, its moderator watches a screen share during usability tasks, and its MCP server creates, recruits, and launches studies. It has no REST API and no public price, and it also sells digital twins.
  • Conveo. Consumer concept and pricing research: monadic concept tests, MaxDiff, Van Westendorp, and Gabor-Granger, with spend caps and launch approvals. Interviews are asynchronous only, and it publishes a price estimator at a $3.00 per minute blended rate, before panel, incentives, and platform fees.
  • Strella. Fast AI voice interviews, up to 90 minutes, that an in-house team runs itself, in 46 languages. It has no public REST API and no public price, and recruitment goes through Respondent and User Interviews.

Customer research surveys

  • Voicepanel. Surveys are a block in the same study as the interviews and tasks: rating, ranking, matrix, and open questions, with voice answers where a text box would lose the reason. Recruit from the same panels or intercept visitors on your own site, and read the results with cross-tabs and a chat over your own data.
  • Qualtrics. The deepest survey toolset in our guide, with conjoint and MaxDiff in 78 languages, and FedRAMP High and HITRUST for regulated industries. Qualtrics built its product before large language models, so AI adds text follow-ups to a survey, and there are no voice or video interviews. A self-serve research license costs $420 a month, billed annually, and buyers report a median enterprise contract near $30,000 a year.
  • SurveyMonkey. The fastest way to field a survey today: a free plan, paid plans from $99 a month, a 335M+ person Audience panel, and Claude and ChatGPT connectors. It stays a survey tool, with no voice or video answers and no usability tests.

Usability testing

  • Voicepanel. Tasks on live websites, prototypes, and mobile apps, with iOS and Android screen recording, and the AI interviewer asks about what happened afterward. Show two designs side by side, with the order randomized and the labels hidden, and run the whole thing in the same session as the interview.
  • UserTesting. The widest set of usability methods: think-aloud video, native iOS and Android tests, card sort, tree test, and live moderated sessions, on a 7M+ panel plus the User Interviews network. AI-moderated interviews are in early access. It sells quoted annual subscriptions only, and buyers report a median near $41,000 a year.
  • Maze. Figma prototypes, live sites, and native mobile tests for design teams, with a free plan, $5 panel credits that include the incentive, and AI-moderated voice interviews on the Enterprise plan.

Evals for AI products

If Listen Twins is what brought you to Listen Labs, the alternative on our side is Grade. A twin answers questions in place of the person interviewed. Grade recruits your target users, records them using your product on the scenarios that matter, builds a rubric from what they say and do, and delivers an autograder calibrated to them, with its agreement against those users measured. We built digital twins ourselves about a year ago. They were excellent at reproducing what people had already told us, and their confidence dropped on new questions and concepts, which is why we went the other way. Grade is in early access.

Listen Labs is ahead on a few things. Its moderator watches a live screen share and asks a follow-up when what a participant does contradicts what they said. It supports 120+ languages to our 37, its strategists run the program for you, it holds ISO 27001, 27701, and 42001 on top of SOC 2 Type II and GDPR per its trust center, and it has MaxDiff, TURF, and Gabor-Granger, which we don't.

Voicepanel is ahead where a team wants to run its own research. Our REST API does everything the app does, including panel recruitment, and our MCP server exposes 41 tools, both on one public schema, where Listen Labs' REST API launches studies only with your own participants. On Enterprise you can read and rewrite the rules for 13 AI stages, one study mixes interviews, usability tasks, and surveys, and the prices are public with no seat licenses.

What Listen Labs alternatives cost

Listen Labs doesn't publish prices. Vendr's median buyer pays $21,875 a year, and a single buyer report repeated by Contrary Research puts a managed engagement at about $20,000 a year plus $300 to $400 per completed interview. Among the alternatives, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics' self-serve license, Maze, and Conveo's estimator publish a number. Outset, Strella, and UserTesting quote. We checked what 12 research platforms publish and what buyers report paying in a separate post.

Voicepanel publishes everything. A 100-person, 15-minute consumer study in the US costs $5,100 on Pay per project: $1,500 recruitment, $1,500 incentives, and a $2,100 platform fee, with study design, fieldwork, and first-pass analysis included. The calculator shows the arithmetic for any size, and Enterprise is a $30,000 annual license with no per-response fee.

Listen Labs alternatives FAQ

Is Listen Labs being acquired by Salesforce?
Yes. Salesforce announced a definitive agreement on September 29, 2026, and expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2027, which ends January 31, 2027, subject to regulatory clearance. Terms weren't disclosed; unnamed sources cited by Business Insider and TechCrunch put the value near $2 billion. The team joins Salesforce AI Labs, and Listen Labs says the same team keeps building the product. If you're a customer, ask for the contract and data-export terms in writing before the close.

How much does Listen Labs cost?
Listen Labs doesn't publish prices. Vendr's median buyer pays $21,875 a year, and a single buyer report repeated by Contrary Research puts a managed engagement at about $20,000 a year plus $300 to $400 per completed interview.

Who are the main Listen Labs competitors?
Outset, Conveo, and Strella for AI-moderated interviews; Qualtrics and SurveyMonkey for surveys; UserTesting and Maze for usability testing. Voicepanel covers all three jobs in one study, and adds Grade for evals.

What does Listen Labs do?
AI-moderated interviews with real people in voice, video, and text, with a moderator that can watch a screen share, run as a managed program by its strategists. Since October 2026 it also sells Listen Twins, digital twins built from those interviews.

Which Listen Labs alternative is best for AI product teams?
Voicepanel, in our view, because Grade connects research to the evals that decide what ships, and because the REST API and MCP server let an engineering team run studies from its own tools. Outset is the stronger choice if you want the study run for you.

If you want to see what a study looks like on our side, the study reference lists every block you can combine. Talk to us to run one, or join the Grade waitlist if evals are why you're here.
